American Lung Association
2010 Annual Report

I am the proud mother of Carey Poindexter. Carey has had severe chronic asthma from the day he was born. We call his major medical problems challenges, because we believe challenges you can overcome. My son’s motto is "Just because you have asthma, you just can't let get you down".

Carey has been hospitalized 26 times, in intensive care 4 times and incubated once. This is not including trips to the emergency room or doctor visits. Carey takes 6 medications daily to assist with managing his asthma. Being the mother of a severe asthmatic, there are so many factors that we have to take into consideration just or Carey to have a somewhat normal childhood. We take breathing for granting. For Carey, it can be a monumental task. It is imperative that we fight for air. Please Join Carey and I and register for the walk or make a generous donation to the
American Lung Association to support our FIGHT FOR AIR.

No one should struggle to breathe. That is why I am walking in the
Fight For Air Walk. Thank you for joining this important fight for children with asthma everywhere.

Join me and participate in the Fight for Air WALK on November 14, 2010 in San Diego. If you can't walk with me, please make a tax-deductible donation to my Fight for Air WALK effort by visiting my Personal Center or

Mission
The mission of the American Lung Association is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.

The American Lung Association in California pursues our mission through advocacy, education and research.

We are the only organization in California that helps people and communities improve lung health while working to create public policies that attack the cause of lung disease.

The Lung Health Crisis

Californians breathe the worst air in the nation,
90% of us are living in areas with unhealthy air.

Youth smoking has increased for the first time in a decade,
90% of smokers began smoking before the age of 18.

Asthma and allergies are the leading causes for school absences
and account for 130 million missed school days each year.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death
in the U.S. for both men and women -- more than breast, colorectal prostate and pancreatic cancers combined.

Why the American Lung Association?

More than 100 years of success from fighting tuberculosis to our work in tobacco and air quality;

Recognized leader on lung health issues;

Proven success in advocacy, education, research and public awareness;

Proven success in attracting the consumer as well as high level corporate partners
The American Lung Association has critical funding support needs for the following programs.

Total or partial program costs are included; however, other contribution amounts are accepted for each program. Donors will be recognized via the program, as well as at  the November 14, 2010 Fight for Air Walk.
